Lambert Wilson steps into the magical world as Nicolas Flamel in HBO’s Harry Potter series

The Harry Potter universe is heading in exciting new directions, and the latest casting information for HBO’s hugely popular Harry Potter series is exciting fans. French actor Lambert Wilson, best known for his iconic role as The Merovingian in The Matrix dystopian films, will play the role of famed alchemist Nicolas Flamel. This news is a big change from the original film series, which never actually brought Flamel to the screen, even though he was very important to the plot of the first book.

As Collider reports, Wilson was recently spotted shooting with long white hair and beard at the breathtaking Kinans Cove in Cornwall, England, giving the look of the ancient sorcerer in that cove in black and white images. Also joining them is renowned Swiss actress Marthe Keller as Flamel’s wife Perenelle, a role not previously seen in a screen adaptation. Both were shot with John Lithgow (who plays Hogwarts headmaster-Albus Dumbledore) in what appears to be a powerful beach scene inspired by J.K. Is not included. Rowling’s original novel.

Why does Wilson idolize Nicolas Flamel?

Reports say Wilson, 67, has very impressive international credentials for the role. In addition to the iconic Matrix performances, he is best known for other acclaimed work in French film, the award-winning Of Gods and Men. His casting is a testament to HBO’s dedication to authenticity — in real life Nicolas Flamel was a French alchemist who lived from 1330 to 1418, and so Wilson’s native French roots make him a natural fit for the role.
